Winless Ottawa Redblacks dismiss VP Shawn Burke

The Ottawa Redblacks have dismissed another member of its leadership team amid a winless season.

Shawn Burke, vice president of football operations, will be leaving his role, the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) announced Sunday.

Burke joined the Redblacks in 2021 and has led the club’s football operations since.

In a statement, OSEG CEO Mark Goudie acknowledged the decision was “difficult” and is grateful to Burke for his commitment to the team.

“At the same time, our football results have not been good enough. Ultimately, I have a responsibility to make changes when I believe we need a different approach, and I have concluded that a change in our football leadership is necessary,” Goudie said.

The Canadian football team is staring down an 0-10 season so far after a 30-point loss to the Montreal Alouettes on Thursday.

It comes only days Adrian Sciarra announced he would no longer serve as the president of the Redblacks. The team also fired defensive coordinator Will Fields earlier this month.

The team will take on the BC Lions at home next weekend.

OSEG says an update on its football operations structure would be forthcoming.
