The RCMP say a young person in eastern Ontario was arrested last month in connection with a “potential threat to the population.” The Mounties said the individual was arrested on Aug. 21 in the Glengarry, Ont., region, east of Ottawa, when the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) executed two search warrants in the area. The RCMP says INSET collects, shares, and analyzes information that concerns “threats to national security and criminal extremism/terrorism.” “The RCMP took necessary enforcement action following information they received of a potential threat to the population,” a news release said. “This is a reminder to all, the importance of reporting suspicious activity or behaviours that can potentially cause a threat to public safety.” The RCMP did not say what the potential threat was and did not announce any charges. The person who was arrested cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Police said there is no known threat to public safety at this time.
