Ottawa police have charged a 25-year-old man for an alleged assault against a busker over the weekend. Officers were called to an area near the Fairmont Chateau Laurier on Wellington Street shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday. Police say while playing bagpipes on the sidewalk, the victim was approached by an unknown man and was assaulted with an edged weapon “without provocation.” Ottawa paramedics say the victim was treated on scene with minor injuries to his hand. He was not taken to hospital. A large police presence was seen in the area for several hours as officers investigated the incident. The suspect was arrested and charged for assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, possession of a dangerous weapon, obstructing/resisting arrest and two counts of breach of probation. An investigation is ongoing, police say.
