Ontario Provincial Police say there will be an increased police presence in Deep River, as the investigation continues into a stabbing in the Ottawa Valley town. An individual was treated for life-threatening injuries after a “serious incident” in the area of McElligott Drive last Wednesday afternoon, according to police. A shelter-in-place was in effect for several hours on Wednesday night and on Thursday as police investigated the incident in the area of McElligott Drive and Golf Course Road. In a post on social media Sunday afternoon, police said “residents will notice an increased police presence in Deep River” as part of an ongoing investigation. “There is no concern for public safety. We thank everyone for their continued patience and cooperation,” the OPP said. On Friday, the OPP said investigators have not identified a suspect. The OPP and Deep River Police Service asked residents to stop sharing and remove any unverified information, photos or videos related to the incident last Wednesday. “As the investigation into the stabbing in Deep River continues, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Deep River Police Service are aware of unverified information, images, and video circulating on social media that claim to identify or describe a suspect,” the OPP said. “The spread of unconfirmed information can directly interfere with the investigation, impact witness evidence, and hinder police efforts to identify those responsible.” Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or may have dash camera footage to contact the Upper Ottawa Valley OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and reference incident number E261314886.
