Heat warning continues for Ottawa today, with relief from hot and humid weather expected this weekend

Ottawa residents will have to sweat through at least one more day of hot and humid temperatures before relief arrives for the weekend.

A heat warning remains in effect for Ottawa, with a high of 29 C expected today and the humidex making it feel like 31.

Environment Canada says the heat event will continue into this evening but may extend into Thursday or Friday for areas near Lake Ontario.

“Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high-risk category,” the weather agency said.

The forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud today with a 30 per cent chance of afternoon showers. There is a risk of a thunderstorm.

It will be partly cloudy tonight with a 30 per cent chance of showers early this evening with the risk of a thunderstorm. Low 18 C.

Thursday will start sunny, before some clouds roll in during the afternoon. There is a risk of showers and thunderstorms. High 27 C.

Friday will be sunny. High 25 C.

The outlook for Saturday calls for cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers. High 21 C.

Sunday will see a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of showers. High 25 C.

The normal temperatures for this time of year are a high of 27 C and a low of 16 C.

Smoke

Environment Canada says smoke from wildfires burning in northern Ontario and Quebec may linger over Ottawa today.

An air quality warning issued for Ottawa was lifted early this morning.

According to firesmoke.ca, smoke from wildfires will continue to linger over Ottawa into tomorrow.
