Heat warning remains in effect as sweltering temperatures continue

The heatwave continuing to batter Ontario has Windsorites reaching for cool treats, extra water, and shade. CTV's Robert Lothian reports.

A prolonged heat event persists across the region, with high temperatures and humid conditions expected to continue into the evening.

Environment Canada says daytime highs are expected to range from 30 C to 36 C, while overnight temperatures will remain elevated between 20 C and 25 C, offering little relief from the heat. Humidex values are forecast to reach 38 to 42, making conditions feel significantly hotter.

The heat event could persist into Thursday or Friday in areas near Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

Forecasters also warn that the hot, humid air could lead to deteriorating air quality, with the Air Quality Health Index potentially approaching the high-risk category.

Public health officials advise people to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, and check on vulnerable individuals, including older adults, young children and those with chronic health conditions.
