Truck driver going 115 km/h in 60 zone with unsecured dryer, police say

Police in Greater Sudbury, Ont., say a driver is facing stunt driving charges after allegedly travelling 115 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on Falconbridge Road — with an unsecured clothes dryer in the vehicle earlier this month.

Police said the truck was transporting a dryer that was not fastened, restrained or otherwise prevented from shifting during transport, creating a significant safety hazard.

“Laundry on the loose?” the Greater Sudbury Police Service wrote in a social media post.

“We can confirm it was not set to ‘tumble,’ but it easily could have been.”

In emails to CTV News, police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn confirmed the traffic stop occurred on April 18 on Old Falconbridge Road after the officer had observed the vehicle travelling at high speed.

Charges laid

As a result, police said the driver was charged with stunt driving, speeding, operating a commercial motor vehicle with an insecure load, failing to sign a permit in ink and failing to have an insurance card.

In addition to the charges, the driver also received a 30-day licence suspension and the truck was impounded for 14 days.
