Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a break and enter in Armstrong, Ont., one of several communities evacuated by recent wildfire activity, and are asking the public to help identify a suspect. OPP are also reminding residents to stay out of restricted zones in the community and nearby areas. A video posted to social media by police shows a man wear a black hoodie inside a home on the evening of July 25. Public appeal help In a social media post, OPP officers directly addressed the public. “Do you recognize this person?” asked Staff Sgt. Kyla Arnold. Sgt. Theresa Wabason added that anyone with information should come forward. “If you have any information as to who this person might be or any information regarding this crime, please contact the OPP,” she said. How to report information Anyone who can identify the suspect or has information about the break and enter is urged to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously. Warning against entering restricted areas In an earlier post, Arnold said the detachment has received numerous complaints about break-ins in both Armstrong and White Sand First Nation. “The OPP are actively investigating these incidents and continue to do active patrols,” he said. Wabason followed with a warning for residents. “I want to remind everyone not to return to the restricted areas,” she said. “I know you want to check on your property to make sure everything’s okay, but we ask that you refrain from going there and if you feel you’ve been victimized by a break and enter or looting, please contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and we will do an investigation.”
