A driver with Ontario Northland has been charged after a single-vehicle collision on Highway 17 Tuesday morning just north of Wawa. Ontario Provincial Police said several passengers were hurt in the crash and were treated and released in hospital for minor injuries. The incident took place around 6:50 a.m. Aug. 11, about 25 kilometres north of Wawa. “A passenger bus had rolled onto its side and entered the ditch. Several passengers reported injuries,” police said in a news release. “Emergency services attended the scene. Seventeen passengers were transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and were subsequently released.” The bus driver has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act. OPP Const. Rob Sanchioni said police are looking for witnesses, or anyone who had dashcam or other video footage of the incident. They are urged to contact the Superior East Wawa OPP at 1-888-310-1122. “But our investigation so far has led to the driver of the bus being charged,” Sanchioni said in an email. The highway has since been cleared and the bus has been removed, he added.
