The Quebec provincial police (SQ) economic and cybercrime unit arrested a man suspected of being involved in an interprovincial fraud network involving purchasing cars with fake IDs. Mascouche man Trésor N’Kumbu Luyeye, 42, of Mascouche, was arrested and appeared in the Joliette courthouse, facing conspiracy, fraud, possession of false documents, and vehicle trafficking charges. The operation was launched on May 22, 2025, and targeted key players in the Mascouche-based alleged fraud ring. The investigation stems from 26 alleged frauds in 2022-2023 at 22 vehicle dealerships. “The arrest of Trésor N’Kumbu Luyeye includes 26 cases of fraud, committed in five Canadian provinces and resulting in financial losses of $3,300,000 for car dealerships,” the SQ said in a news release. “The fraudsters’ complex scheme allowed them to obtain credit associated with a vehicle by using real stolen identities in order to export and sell it.” Cases in Ontario (nine), Manitoba (one), New Brunswick (six), Nova Scotia (two) and Quebec (eight) led to the arrest of a 47-year-old Mascouche man and a 62-year-old man from Montreal. Another man, 61, currently being held in Ontario, was also arrested.
