Man, 27, charged with manslaughter after girlfriend found dead in Montreal condo

A woman was found shot dead inside a Ville-Marie condo in Montreal, prompting a police investigation.

A 27-year-old man has been charged after his girlfriend was found dead in a downtown Montreal condo on Wednesday.

Montreal resident Alexandre Karim Amau Restau is facing one count of manslaughter and appeared in court on Thursday to face the charge. Court records allege he used a firearm to kill the victim, identified as Hiba Elrhazi.

Police confirmed to CTV News that the accused and the victim were a couple.

The accused was arrested at the Montreal airport Wednesday afternoon and taken into custody for questioning. He is reported to have alerted Quebec provincial police about the injured woman.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) then requested a wellness check by Montreal police around 3:25 p.m. at a condo on Simpson Street near Summerhill Avenue, in the city’s Ville-Marie borough. Officers found the victim with injuries to her upper body and she was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Her death marks the ninth suspected femicide in Quebec so far this year and the seventh killing on the Island of Montreal since the start of 2026.

The accused does not have a criminal record in Quebec.
