A 31-year-old Kitchener man is facing charges following a cybercrime investigation into child sexual abuse and exploitation material. Waterloo regional police executed a search warrant at a Kitchener residence on Monday, arresting the suspect. The investigation began in September when members of the police service’s Cybercrime – Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit launched a probe into the possession of child sexual abuse material. The accused has been charged with two counts of possession of child sexual assault and exploitation material and one count of making available child sexual abuse and exploitation material. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing. Police noted the operation is part of the Ontario Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet, supported by funding from the Ministry of the Solicitor General.
