GO train service extending to Stratford

GO trains are coming to Stratford.

Service on the Kitchener Line will be extended to the Festival City starting July 6.

The province announced the news on Friday, explaining there would be a train leaving Stratford for Toronto in the morning followed by a return trip in the afternoon. The service will run both weekdays and weekends.

“Bringing GO service to Stratford will make it easier for people to travel to Toronto for work, school and tourism, while also giving Ontarians and visitors a convenient new way to experience Stratford’s world-class attractions and culture,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, the minister of transportation, in a media release.

Mayor Martin Ritsma called it “a huge win” for the city and tourists.

“By introducing year-round GO train service, we’re making it easier for more people to experience everything Stratford has to offer while supporting local jobs and businesses,” said Stan Cho, the minister of tourism, culture and gaming. “This new service will help strengthen tourism in the region and showcase Ontario as a leading destination for arts and culture.”

The city’s biggest economic driver is the Stratford Festival, which brought in more than 430,000 people over its 2024 season.
