Intense storms across Edmonton have resulted in at least one lightning strike in the north side of the city. Officials confirmed it was lightning that did damage to a fire hydrant and sidewalk near 129 Street and 129 Avenue this week. Epcor crews said they were assessing whether the hydrant required replacement or if the damage was cosmetic, in which case repairs would constitute a coat of paint. By the time a CTV News Edmonton camera had caught visuals of the damage, around 3 p.m. Wednesday, the fire hydrant – the side of which was singed – had been repaired. Epcor says the city is responsible for the sidewalk.
