A 25-year-old man is facing assault charges after a youth was seriously injured and police officers were attacked in Yarmouth, N.S. The RCMP responded to reports of an altercation on a trail near Clements Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. “Officers learned that two youths were walking in the area when they were approached by a man,” said the RCMP in a news release Wednesday. “A verbal confrontation ensued and escalated into an assault on one of the youths.” The youth was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police did not release their age. A man was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police allege the man later assaulted RCMP officers while in custody. Jordan Scott Surette of Yarmouth, N.S., has been charged with the following offences: Surette was remanded into custody and is due to appear in Barrington provincial court on Thursday. Police say a second man who was on the trail and acting “belligerent” was also arrested. Joel Thistle-Wallace, 19, has been charged with failing to comply with a release order. Yarmouth Town RCMP is leading the investigation with support from Yarmouth Rural RCMP and RCMP Forensic Identification Services.
