Autumn officially starts at just after 6 p.m. today. At that point, the sun’s most direct rays will be over the equator (and heading south). And... temperatures are heading south as well. Monday hit a high of 28 C in Edmonton. That’s tied for the 13th-warmest day of 2026, it was the warmest day since Aug. 27 and it was warmer than every day in June. It was also the last time we’ll be above 25 C for a LONG time. That said, we’re still slightly above average Tuesday and Wednesday with temperatures up around 20 C both days. Even Thursday should hit the upper teens. But...the upper ridge that has kept us sunny and in the mid to upper 20s for the past few days is fading off to the east and on the back edge of that ridge we have chance of some scattered showers in parts of western and northern Alberta today. There’s a slight chance of a scattered shower in the Edmonton area late this evening and/or overnight. It’s Friday and Saturday that have the BEST chance for some rain, possibly some heavier and steadier rain. There’s still a fair amount of uncertainty with the track of that incoming low-pressure system and that’ll determine the timing and rainfall intensity/location. As of Tuesday morning, it looks like we’ll have an initial wave of showers pushing through central Alberta early Friday and then some heavier and steadier areas of rain late Friday into early Saturday. That heavier and steadier rain should continue to push ENE through the day Saturday (moving out of the Edmonton region Saturday afternoon). For Edmonton, there might be a few showers early Friday, but the best chance for RAIN comes late Friday into early Saturday. Behind that system, gusty wind and a BIG drop in temperature for Saturday. The daytime highs will be somewhere in the 10-15 C range and gusts are expected to be in the 50-60 km/h range. Daytime highs should get back to the mid to upper teens for Sunday through next week.
