Edmonton Oilers let go of head coach Kris Knoblauch, assistant Mark Stuart

Kris Knoblauch is no longer the head coach of the Edmonton Oilers.

The club confirmed Thursday morning it relieved the 47-year-old, who took the reins in 2023-24 after Jay Woodcroft was fired.

The Oilers also let go of assistant coach Mark Stuart, who was hired the year before Knoblauch.

“Following a thorough review of this past season, we believe these changes are needed. We are grateful for the contributions both Kris and Mark have made to our organization and we wish them the best moving forward,” Stan Bowman, executive vice-president of hockey operations and general manager, said in a press release.

He is scheduled to speak to media at 10 a.m.

Edmonton was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs this year, after making it to the Stanley Cup Final the previous two years.

Knoblauch has a 135-77-21 record in 233 regular season games, and a 31-22 record in three playoff runs.
