The City of Edmonton is seeking public input as it moves to update its residential parking program (RPP). Established in the 1970s, the RPP has remained largely unchanged. The program manages parking in neighbourhoods where demand is high using restrictions and permits. From now until Nov. 15, residents will be able to share their feedback online through a public opinion survey, weekly polls, and using the city’s curbside compass, an interactive parking tool that explores parking options and the benefits and trade-offs on a sample street. Residents will also be able to voice their thoughts in person at the following pop-up events: Public input will be used to inform recommendations for a redesigned RPP. Administration will present the recommendations to city council early next year. There are 19 RPP zones in Edmonton with 4,800 resident permits and 1,200 temporary permits issued annually. More information on the RPP and public engagement can be found online.
