A fire has destroyed a piece of Cowichan Valley history.

A blaze reportedly broke out at the Quamichan Inn on Maple Bay Rd. Friday night and burned into Saturday morning.

There has been an outpouring of support on social media – many calling it the “heart of Cowichan Valley.”

According to Tourism Cowichan, the Quamichan Inn has been nestled in Cowichan Valley for more than a 100 years. Viewer Tim Owen told CTV News the property was opened as an inn by his parents Sheila and Archie Owen in 1969 and was a private residence before then.

It’s unclear what started the fire, but it appears as though no one was injured.
