Voting polls have closed and we'll soon know who will govern B.C. after a 28-day hard-fought campaign.

Decision day in B.C. saw some last-ditch appeals for support from party leaders amid polls showing that Tuesday’s race could come down to the wire.

A final Insights West poll released Monday showed the Liberals and NDP tied, each with 41 per cent support, while the Greens registered 17 per cent support.

Party leaders say they’re feeling optimistic about their chances.

Christy Clark was in her home riding of West Kelowna while John Horgan and Andrew Weaver were out encouraging people to vote.

Horgan was in Metro Vancouver helping people reach the polls, and Weaver voted in his riding of Oak Bay-Gordon Head early in the morning before hitting the streets to talk to voters.

CTV Vancouver Island will have dedicated online coverage on our website, Twitter and Facebook, as well as a live election map and election page showing real-time results from across the province.

Here are some of the main storylines heading into tonight's results:

Tight race in Saanich North and the Islands

One of the main storylines to watch will be a three-way rematch in the riding of Saanich North and the Islands.

Only 379 votes separated the top three candidates in 2013, becoming the closest three-way race in modern B.C. political history.

Four years later and Liberal Stephen Roberts, New Democrat Gary Holman and Green Adam Olsen are back to duke it out for a seat in the Legislature once more.

Greens hope for Cowichan breakthrough

The BC Green Party is hoping for a major breakthrough in the Cowichan Valley, pinning their hopes on candidate Sonia Furstenau.

Furstenau is still riding a wave of popularity after she led a public charge in shutting down a contaminated soil dump in Shawnigan Lake.

With former NDP MLA Bill Routley not running again, there’s no incumbent in the riding and new candidate Lori Iannidinardo is hoping to keep it firmly in orange territory.

She’ll also face a challenge from former CBC journalist Steve Housser, who’s running for the BC Liberals, and Independent Ian Morrison, the former president of the Cowichan Valley NDP riding association.

Weaver hopes to hold onto Oak Bay-Gordon Head

Green Party Leader Andrew Weaver made history by becoming the first member of his party to gain a seat in the Legislature in 2013, and he hopes to hold onto his seat.

The NDP has entered former BC Conservation Officer Bryce Casavant, who made international headlines when he saved two bear cubs from death, into the race.

Meanwhile, Alex Dutton will try to win the riding back for the BC Liberals.

Mayor eyes Esquimalt-Metchosin riding

With no incumbent, Esquimalt-Metchosin also appears to be up for grabs – and Esquimalt Mayor Barb Desjardins is hoping to turn the NDP riding into a Liberal one.

Desjardins is up against NDP candidate Mitzi Dean and Green candidate Andy Mackinnon.

In 2013, the NDP's Maurine Karagianis took the riding with nearly 11,000 votes – 4,400 more than the Liberal runner up and 6,000 more votes than the Greens.

Desjardin says if she's elected, her first orders of business will be transit and transportation.

Dean says she’s knocked on a lot of doors during the campaign and is proud of the race she’s run.

Mackinnon could play the spoiler role, performing well in pre-election polls.
