Salvage experts are back on the scene this morning on Dallas Road, along Victoria's southern shoreline, trying to figure out how to get two grounded barges off the rocks.

The barges – one carrying a crane, the other loaded with construction material – were being towed by a tug last night when strong winds snapped tow lines.

Police say no one was in danger and the tug and its crew returned safely to dock, while debris from the barges washed ashore.

The barges were being used for the construction of the Coho Ferry terminal in Victoria's inner harbour.
