Alberta Health Services (AHS) shut down the National Beerhall on 17 Avenue S.W. due to a cockroach infestation. A notice of closure was posted after investigators say “multiple German cockroaches were observed on monitoring glue boards throughout the facility. “A cockroach nest with at least 12 live cockroaches was found in a gap under the bar countertop,” the report added. “Live cockroaches in all cycles of life were found in, under, and around the two north glasswashers in the bar. Live and dead cockroaches were observed on floors in the bar.” It added that there were only two monitoring traps visible in the dishwashing area, and one of them was water-damaged, “rendering it ineffective for monitoring.” The bar and restaurant was ordered closed until the owner works with a pest control company to “abate the cockroach infestation and implement an ongoing integrated pest management program for the establishment. The notice was posted Thursday. The closure will remain in effect until the work is completed to the satisfaction of the AHS. CTV News has reached out to The National for comment.
