CTV News Calgary has won a Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) Award of Excellence. Prairies Region award winners were announced Monday evening. The award for “Video, Breaking News in a Large Market” went to CTV News Calgary for its coverage of a deadly rockslide at Bow Glacier Falls in Banff National Park. The incident happened in June 2025. CTV News Calgary was the first to break the story online. Television coverage included live reports from Lake Louise and the Foothills Hospital, dramatic video of the deadly rockslide and analysis from a geologist. RTDNA named 10 CTV News Calgary entries as finalists in the Prairie Region for its Awards of Excellence. The annual awards honour the best journalists, programs, platforms, stations and newsgathering organizations in audio, digital and video. In addition to the Bow Glacier Falls story, CTV News Calgary received nominations for stories about cybercriminals targeting youth, a motorcycle business venture, the blacksmith world championships, a former Calgary Stampeder fighting ALS and a youth boxing program for troubled teens. Nominations were also received for CTV News Calgary’s live productions of the 2025 municipal election, the Calgary Stampede Parade and the Remembrance Day service at the Hangar Flight Museum. CTV News Calgary was also a finalist for best TV newscast.
