The province is giving Albertans one last chance to learn about its passenger rail master plan and ask questions. Alberta’s Transportation and Economic Corridors’ (TEC) passenger rail team is hosting its final virtual information session tonight, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The session will include an overview of the completed plan and a question period. The 30-year plan focuses mostly on the corridor between Calgary and Edmonton and includes a high-speed link between the two-cities, and an all-day, high-frequency commuter service connecting them to their international airports. Also part of the plan is a train between Calgary and Banff. A private group proposed building this section at no cost to the province, if the government builds the rail between the airport and the Calgary core. The province says the airport train would connect to Calgary’s Blue Line LRT extension. Trains to further communities like Crowsnest Pass, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat are identified as 60-year possibilities in the plan. Alberta’s full passenger rail vision could cost at least $60 billion. Over the next three years, the province plans to spend $15 million moving the project forward.
