A few days of stability before Calgary’s next blast of snow

A break from the snow for now. Gina Martin has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

Calgary and southern Alberta get a couple of days to recover following Sunday’s winter wallop that saw peak wind gusts of 121 km/h for the Two Hills area, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

The strongest wind gust recorded at the Calgary International Airport was 66 km/h at around 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Some other notable wind gusts reported includes Water Park Gate at 116 km/h, Medicine Hat at 107 km/h and Lethbridge at 100 km/h.

The strong winds paired with wet snow created poor visibility and driving conditions both in the city and on area highways before the storm tapered off in the late afternoon.

There’s still a chance of some scattered flurries during the morning commute in Calgary on Monday before we get to a high of -1 C in the early afternoon.

Flurries could return later in the day as well, but just trace amounts are expected.

Temperatures begin to improve on Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs in the seasonal range, but our next significant weathermaker will start to make its presence known on Wednesday night when flurries are expected to fall.

By Thursday morning, those flurries will transition into more sustained snowfall for about 48 hours.

While it’s hard to get a gauge on amounts this far out, models do seem to suggest we should get several centimeters of snowfall from this system.
