The 38th annual Georgian College Auto Show is underway in Barrie. The three day, student-lead auto show features more than 150 vehicles. All the auto industry’s ‘big players’ are on location and automotive lovers say this is one their must-see’s of the summer. “I’m a car guy and I always like to see the new models and I think there are few 27’s here” says Al Norie who came from Pickering to attend the show. More than 150 students are involved in the weekend show. Program directors have spent the past ten months preparing for it. For many today is their first chance to get real industry experience. Jerome Bedard is a third year student at Georgn. “We get to meet all these people, we get to experience all these cars and its just great to practise and also get a real life experience” says Bedard. “It makes me think on my feet just being more confident talking to people,” says Simon Levac a Georgian College Student. “Sometimes I am introverted, but being here and being with people makes you come out of your shell and just talk with a bunch of different personalities,” Levac said. The president of Georgian, Kevin Weaver, college says the students may be leading the show but it involves a lot of people from the industry too. “It’s very hands on, that’s the whole point of the show, It’s the whole point of the learning experience and we’re just grateful,” Weaver tells CTV News. “I mean this show doesn’t happen with Georgian. This happens with our manufactures, our donors, our sponsors it takes the industry who backs this entirely to make sure it can happen” says Weaver. Aside from just kicking tires, event goers have the option to take a few laps in a select cars and experience controlled drifting. The Georgian College Auto Show is free to anyone under the age of 12 $10 for adults and runs all weekend long. The auto show concludes Sunday at 5:00pm.
