The Stanley Cup made a special stop in Newmarket, Ont., last week, trading champagne for scoops of ice cream during a visit with Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Sean Walker. The Keswick native stopped by Kawartha Dairy on Wednesday while bringing the Stanley Cup to Georgina, where a social media video showed staff scooping ice cream directly into the trophy. “Look who stopped by Kawartha Dairy in Newmarket.” the shop wrote in a social media post. “Canadian hockey player, Sean Walker from the Carolina Hurricanes celebrated his Stanley Cup win with some Kawartha Dairy ice cream.” The trophy also visited Southlake Health in Newmarket where Walker signed autographs and posed for pictures with hospital patients and staff. Growing up in Keswick, Walker played hockey in York Region before going on to forge an impressive NCAA and NHL career. He became a Stanley Cup champion this year after Carolina defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final. The undrafted defenceman began his NHL career with the Los Angeles Kings and later played for Philadelphia and Colorado before joining Carolina in 2024. Walker kept the celebration close to home and served up a sweet moment for staff.
