The scheduled trial of a Midland, Ont. man accused of murder in the alleged killing of his girlfriend inside their apartment two years ago has been adjourned. The defence application was accepted by Justice Michelle Fuerst inside a virtual Barrie courtroom Thursday morning. Justice Fuerst said the defence awaits a necessary professional report before proceeding. Midland, Ont. man accused of murdering his girlfriend denied bail The trial was initially set to begin in March 2027, with Chester, who is now 28, accused of killing his girlfriend 23-year-old Julia Brady inside their Seventh Street Midland apartment July 15, 2024. He’s been behind bars since; after failing to convince the court during a bail review last year that he should be released from custody. Chester is represented by Toronto lawyers Alison Craig and D’Arcy Leitch. A pre-trial motion date set for next month was adjourned to the first scheduled trial date in late March. Chester is charged with second-degree murder; however, police have not confirmed how Brady died. A publication ban prevents any evidence heard in court ahead of trial from being revealed. While the defence awaits receipt of the report, Chester’s matter is scheduled to return to a virtual courtroom in December. The allegations against the accused have not been tested in court.
