Imagine gliding onto the ice with some of your hockey idols. That will soon become a reality for a handful of young athletes. Registration opened Tuesday for Colt for a Day, an opportunity for young people to get a feel for day in the life of a professional hockey player, like those on the Barrie Colts team. It’s an exciting tradition that’s back for its 21st year. Colt for a Day, organized by the Kempenfelt Rotary Club of Barrie, is an initiative where young hockey players get the chance to train with the pros at Sadlon Arena and experience what it’s like to be an OHL player. They will learn skill development and take in behind the scenes access to areas only elite players usually get to go. “21 years is an incredible milestone and it speaks to how strongly this event resonates in our community,” said Rob Wilcox of the Kempenfelt Rotary Club of Barrie and one of the organizers of the event. “Every participant walks away with memories they’ll never forget and every dollar raised helps us support important charitable work right here in Barrie.” Colt for a Day also raises money for youth-focused charitable programs. The event runs on Feb. 15 at the Sadlon Arena. Those interested can register on the website.
