Purrfect Night Charity gala: Not just for cat lovers

Furry Friends in Barrie to host a first-of-its-kind gala to help support the volunteer-run shelter.

Are you in need of a glamorous night out all while giving back to the community? Mark your calendars animal lovers, because these fluffy felines need your help.

On Sat., Sept. 27, Furry Friends animal shelter is hosting a night of live music, delicious food, feline-loving company and more in support of the roughly 500 cats and kittens that the volunteer run charity rescues every single year.

“This event is important to us. We have taken in over 200 kittens this summer alone as well as 60 cats at the shelter,” said Furry Feline president Susan Bartley.

“It helps raise money to help get vet care, pay the rent, feed the cats, all of that,” added Bartley.

The “Purrfect Night Gala” is a first for the organization and it will be hosted by CTV News at 6 anchor Sarah Freemark.

The gala will be held at the Traditions Banquet Hall at 142 John Street in Barrie, and will feature live music from local bands, and a buffet-style dinner with your choice of Greek, Caesar and pasta salads. Mains include roast beef and herb baked chicken with roasted potatoes on the side.

Afterwards, there will be tea, coffee, and sweets. Vegetarian and vegan meal options are available upon request, and the main menu is gluten free, with the exception of the pasta salad. You can include any dietary restrictions in your email when you purchase tickets.

The evening is a semi formal event, so don’t be afraid to get dressed up for the kitties. There is also an online silent auction to help raise funds for the shelter, which relies solely on donations. The shelter is aiming to raise $8,000 overall.
