As the Ontario Provincial Police’s commercial vehicle safety enforcement efforts continue, local detachments are getting involved. Members of the Georgian Bay OPP were involved in a three-day enforcement initiative at Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Port of Entry in Lansdowne, Ont. During the course of enforcement, OPP, CBSA and Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation (MTO) stopped a total of 293 commercial vehicles after they had entered Canada. Officers identified 23 out-of-service vehicle defects and removed four plated vehicles from service. Including major defects, false logs, hours-of-service in fractions, dangerous goods violations, careless driving, distracted driving and other Highway Traffic Act offences, officers handed out 44 provincial offence notices.
