Hospital ER closes for fifth time in July, cites staff shortage: Health PEI

Prince Edward Island’s Western Hospital is shutting down its ER again on Friday, citing a “temporary staffing shortage.”

An ER in western Prince Edward Island is closed again for the fifth time this month.

The emergency department at Alberton, P.E.I.’s Western Hospital had just reopened Thursday after a previous closure.

The department is closing again Friday due to a staff shortage.

The closest ER is about an hour’s drive away at Summerside’s Prince County Hospital.

In an emergency, Health PEI encourages residents to call 911 or 811 for medical advice.
