Halifax-based singer-songwriter Apryll Aileen is celebrating the release of her debut Christmas song, “Under My Tree.” The song was inspired by a time when being with loved ones during the holidays felt uncertain. “The real part of Christmas is being with the people you love,” Aileen said in an interview with CTV Atlantic’s Katie Kelly. “And in this situation, I didn’t have that person with me. I didn’t think we’d be spending Christmas together, so I wrote this song. Basically, I just want you under my tree.” A festive music video for the track was filmed at several iconic Halifax Christmas locations – including the Connaught Avenue homes decorated by The Giacomantonio brothers, who are famous for their elaborate decorations and giving back to local charity. “It made me feel like home,” said Aileen. “The lights, just everything about this place.” “Under My Tree” has gained momentum beyond the Maritimes, landing a feature in Season 2 of the Hallmark holiday series Mistletoe Murders, currently among the most-watched titles on Amazon Prime. “Hallmark reached out and wanted it for the show,” Aileen said. “It’s so exciting.” “Under My Tree” is out now.
