The Turnbull Brothers are doing something special to give back this holiday season. The Cape Breton twins, whose popularity grew thanks to a stint on “Canada’s Got Talent,” have been getting fellow musicians to sign a guitar which will be raffled off to raise money for Christmas Daddies. “I guess the idea kind of came to us one night. We were going over the schedule, like our schedules for the next couple of months, and saw that we were going to have a lot of opportunities to meet some really cool people and some bigger names,” said Evan Turnbull. “(We thought) why not just grab a guitar and see if we can get some signatures on it and put it in for Christmas Daddies to help them raise some money.” Evan picked the guitar up from the music store Long & McQuade and selected it because of the colour of the grain on the front of the instrument. “I thought it would look very good for signatures. It’s a Martin X-Series,” he said. The guitar features signatures by well-known Maritime musicians like J.P. Cormier, Matt Anderson, Gordie Sampson, and even the Trailer Park Boys. “It’s a pretty funny story how we got a good amount of these signatures. Back in June, when they were doing the Cape Breton Hall of Fame show, they had like Matt Anderson and Jimmy and Heather Rankin, Gordie Sampson and just a bunch of big names come out. So, we went to it, and I brought the guitar with us, and then when they went on break, we just walked back like we own the place,” said Evan. “It just got a bunch of signatures, and now she’s like, she’s pretty juiced up.” Aaron says the musicians were all fantastic sports about signing the guitar. “We still have a number of signatures left that we’d love to get, including some people like Foreigner, Blue Rodeo and maybe Bryan Adams,” he said. The guitar will be raffled off, with the proceeds going to Christmas Daddies – a charitable organization that raises funds in the Maritimes for less fortunate children. “Christmas Daddies is an excellent cause, and they do a lot of great things, because there’s a lot of kids out there and a lot of families that don’t really have a lot of stuff to look forward to at Christmastime, or any other holiday for that matter,” said Aaron. “So having the opportunity to help put a dent in that and help as many people as you can, that’s a great thing.” Raffle tickets can be purchased online and are one for $20 or three for $50.
