A ramp connecting Robie Street to the MacKay Bridge and Barrington Street in Halifax will be closed for a couple of months due to construction. The Massachusetts Avenue off-ramp will be closed from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 16 and Sept. 17. On Sept. 21 at 6 a.m., the ramp will close to traffic until Nov. 27. The city says signage will direct drivers travelling from the MacKay Bridge and Barrington Street toward the Windsor Street Exchange along the detour route. Access toward Dartmouth via the MacKay Bridge from the Windsor Street Exchange, Massachusetts Avenue and Barrington Street will not be affected. The city warns drivers should expect delays and suggests using alternative routes when possible. “These temporary closures are required to support preparations for construction of a new Bayne Street ramp connection from Highway 111 as part of the Windsor Street Exchange project,” reads a news release from the City of Halifax. “The connection is part of broader improvements at the Windsor Street Exchange that are designed to improve traffic flow, support goods movement to and from the Port of Halifax, and enhance the efficiency and resilience of the transportation network.” The city says the new connection will help reduce heavy-truck traffic through other areas of the Windsor Street Exchange as it will provide a more direct route for port traffic.
