Sourabh Kumar got a lot of use out of his push mower on Wednesday. The Nova Scotia business owner wanted to do something nice for his community, so on Tuesday he posted on Facebook that he, his partner and his staff would be mowing lawns for free for seniors and people with disabilities. “We thought we were only going to do 20,” he says. “I heard their stories and it was really heartwarming. It was really hard to say no, so then we thought instead of 20 we will do 30 and then we ended up having 56.” Those 56 lawns took him through the Halifax Regional Municipality and even as far as Kentville. “My neighbour could use the help. I’m sure she would appreciate it,” says Holly Eggleston. As an act of kindness, she made a request on Kumar’s post asking for help not for herself. “She lives by herself, she might be the same age as I am, but I struggle, too, taking care of the yard and things like that if you don’t have the right equipment,” she says “They can’t afford to have big companies come and do the service so that’s why we started the initiative where we could help those who can’t afford or help those who are actually in need,” Kumar says.
