James Mullinger is preparing for another career milestone. The New Brunswick comic is filming his next stand-up special, “Canadian Comedian,” at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax. “The show is a love letter to Canada,” Mullinger says. “I’m a Brit by birth but I’m a Canadian by choice and that to me is what this show is all about and there’s nowhere else I would do it.” Mullinger is so happy with his adopted country that he’s been carrying his Canadian passport with him since he became a citizen. “I carry the proof around!” he says. “I’m a very proud new Canadian.” Mullinger gathers stand-up material from the life he’s made for himself in the Maritimes. He’s one of the busiest entertainers in the region with offstage projects that include his “Weekly Ramble” podcast and Maritime Edit magazine. “Every single week, I sit down, wherever I am in the world and record an hour of me rambling,” Mullinger says. Edit Magazine just released its 34th issue – it’s first art and design special. “We’re making every issue a themed issue now.” Mullinger’s kids share his artistic enthusiasm and ambitions. He’s writing a children’s book with his son River and his son Hunter is his opening act. “He roasts me onstage,” Mullinger says. As busy as he is, Mullinger says none of it is stressful because it’s all fun. “This is all my hobby. I love this.” “Canadian Comedian” arrives at the Rebecca Cohn on April 17, 2026.
