Mounties in Port Alberni are investigating after a woman bit into an unknown pill found in a mini donut bought at a local fair.

The woman was at the Alberni District Fall Fair with her family on Thursday, Sept. 8 when she bought the donuts at a concession stand.

She bit down on the donut, noticed the small blue pill and immediately spat it out then contacted police.

Mounties seized the donut and pill and met with concession stand operators, who were apparently shocked at the discovery.

The operators have cooperated with police and say they have no idea how the pill ended up in the bag of donuts.

The incident remains under investigation and Mounties have notified the Vancouver Island Health Authority.

The nature of the pill is unknown, but police said the woman did not feel any ill effects from it.

She was told to seek medical attention as a precaution.
