A 20-year-old woman is recovering after she was hit by a car on the Pat Bay Highway on Friday.

It happened on the southbound lanes of Highway 17 at Mount Newton Cross Road around 6:45 p.m.

Central Saanich police say the pedestrian was trying to cross the highway when she was struck by a southbound Hyundai Sonata.

The southbound lanes of the Pat Bay were closed for about three hours as traffic analysts tried to piece together what happened.

B.C. Ambulance transported the woman to Victoria General Hospital.

It was believed at first that her injuries were serious, but they were later downgraded to minor injuries, police say.

Police say the driver had a green light at the time and charges are not being considered against them.

The investigation is ongoing.
