It's not exactly the breakthrough the Liberals were hoping for on Vancouver Island.
A campaign volunteer crashed a truck into the campaign office of Saanich-Gulf Islands Liberal candidate Tim Kane Friday afternoon. Fortunately, no one suffered any serious injuries.
The red truck was being driven by a campaign volunteer who mistook the gas pedal for the brake, Kane said.
"The polls said that the Liberals were making a breakthrough down here, and this is, I guess, just symbolic of that," he said.
The volunteer was returning from putting up election signs, according to Kane.
The truck struck the door and the front of the building, causing the entire front wall of the office to fall. Bricks could be seen littering the ground.
Fire crews evacuated the building due to concerns over its structural integrity following the collision.
None of the seven people inside the office or the driver were harmed.
Kane was not in the office at the time of the crash, but arrived shortly after the incident.
He said campaign efforts would resume at an undisclosed “secondary location.”
Police confirmed no charges would be requested.
