Two Vancouver Island destinations have been named as some of the best places in British Columbia, according to a new Insights West poll of the province’s leisure travellers.

Tofino, chosen as the “best place” by 38 per cent of respondents, came in second overall. The mid-Island getaway came in only one percentage point behind top choice Stanley Park (39%).

They lead a pack of popular destinations across B.C. including Granville Island (27%), the wineries in the Okanagan Valley (25%) and Whistler Village (20%).

Greater Victoria’s Butchart Gardens came in fourth on the list, garnering 26 per cent of the vote – but it was the top choice for travellers more than 55 years old.

Meanwhile, younger travellers showed love for Stanley Park, English Bay and Gastown – all Vancouver-based destinations.

Insights West surveyed 600 B.C. residents who had taken at least one leisure trip 100 kilometres from home in the last year.

It was conducted from June 11 to June 15 and has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
