A convicted sex offender living in a busy Victoria neighbourhood is back behind bars after breaching his parole conditions.

James Douglas Campbell, who was previously convicted of sex crimes against young girls, moved into Victoria’s Cook Street Village in October 2013.

As part of his release conditions, he was banned from going near schools, parks, beaches or anywhere children could be present.

But Campbell was arrested Aug. 2 after police witnessed him entering Beacon Hill Park along Dallas Road, on the way to the beach.

He was also caught trafficking marijuana to an undercover officer at the same beach.

He’s been sentenced to six months in jail for the breach of conditions – but including time served, he’ll remain in custody for just 57 more days.

When he’s released, he’ll again be restricted from going to beaches and public parks, can’t consume marijuana outside of his home, can’t be intoxicated outside of his home and his curfew will be changed to 8 p.m. – 8 a.m. daily.
