A fire at a townhouse in Saanich that sent one person to hospital has been deemed an accident.

On June 19, Saanich fire responded to a call about a fire at 1709 McKenzie Ave. near Tuscany Village.

One person was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Fire officials investigated the fire along with the BC Safety Authority to determine where and how the fire started.

Investigators concluded the fire in the basement bedroom was the result of an electrical arc in the cord of a hair appliance, which was plugged into an outlet on the wall.

Damage was estimated at $300,000.
