Saanich police are investigating after they say a 10-year-old girl was repeatedly approached by the same stranger over a period of two-and-a-half months.

Police first encountered the girl Feb. 14, after a man got out of his vehicle and stared in her direction near her school, making her uncomfortable.

She alerted school staff who contacted police, and officers responding to the call learned it wasn’t the first time the girl was approached.

She said the same man has either approached or followed her three other times since late November of last year.

In the latest incident in the Lakehill area of Saanich, the man was reportedly driving a white pick-up truck possibly with a black toolbox in the bed.

The driver is described as white, between 50 and 60 years old, with a thin build and reddish hair with a goatee.

Police are using the situation to encourage parents to talk to their kids about potentially dangerous situations.
