If it were up to Mounties, some Nanaimo drivers would receive a lump of coal this Christmas after how they reacted to an accident on Wednesday morning.

A three-vehicle crash closed the intersection at Bowen Road and Dufferin Crescent for roughly 35 minutes.

“While waiting in traffic, many expressed their displeasure to the officers,” said Const. Gary O'Brien. “One driver was simply going to a nearby grocery store while others were just annoyed with being stuck in traffic, and let the officers know about it.”

Around 10:30 a.m. a left-turning Nissan truck collided with a southbound Toyota. The impact caused the Toyota to spin and crash into a gravel truck, police say.

No one was injured in the incident, but all three vehicles needed to be towed from the scene.

According to RCMP, there was a large amount of brake and transmission fluid leaked onto the road.

The gravel truck also required a specialized tow truck, further delaying the re-opening of the road.

RCMP are reminding the public that when first responders attend to an accident, the safety of the public and officers is paramount.

" Each accident needs to be investigated fully and to the highest standards possible. Unfortunately, many do not see it that way,” said O’Brien.
