One man is dead following a collision between a tractor trailer and a motorcycle near Hydro Hill on Saturday.

The crash happened on Highway 4 approximately 28 kilometres east of the highway junction leading to Ucluelet and Tofino around 2:30 p.m.

Central Vancouver Island Traffic Services RCMP say it happened on a two lane, winding stretch of road.

The posted speed limit is 80 kilometres per hour, but the crash happened on a curve with a 40 kilometre per hour advisory sign.

The man riding on the eastbound motorcycle died after crossing the centre line, hitting a west bound tractor trailer.

According to police, next of kin have been notified.

The highway was closed for several hours as the coroner and a collision analyst investigated.

Witnesses are asked to contact Cst. Tamara Aquilini at Central Vancouver Island Traffic Services RCMP at 250-248-6111.
