Mounties in the Comox Valley have arrested a man accused in the terrifying assault of a female jogger last month.

The attack took place in Condor Park in Comox on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 18.

A man grabbed the woman and she managed to fight him off and escape, according to police.

He was last seeing fleeing to Robb Road.

A post that made the rounds on social media painted a more frightening version of events, alleging the attacker struck his victim in the head with an object then shoved her to the ground.

The man reportedly ran away with his pants down around his legs and was covered in blood.

The attack prompted police to warn joggers in the area to stay vigilant and not go running alone.

On Monday, Mounties announced they arrested a 26-year-old Courtenay man in connection with the assault.

He’s being held in custody and will make his first court appearance Sept 19.
