A pilot appears to be uninjured after a float plane experienced trouble landing in Comox Lake Wednesday afternoon.

Witnesses told CTV News the small plane was circling the lake and when it attempted to land, it skipped hard off the water and then flipped upside down.

"We saw it coming down, it was coming toward the water," said Mike Slota, who captured video of the incident. "It bounced off the water, hit again and then after it hit it took a nosedive and flipped over."

The pilot, reportedly the only person aboard the aircraft, made it out okay before the plane submerged. Witnesses said boaters on the lake immediately rushed over to provide help after it happened.

First responders including crews from Cumberland Fire Department attended the scene and assessed the wreckage.

The plane has been marked and is being left for Transport Canada to investigate.

The aircraft was not leaking anything into the lake, fire officials said.

There's no word on what caused the plane to crash.
