A 23-year-old man was rushed to hospital after he was hit by a car in Victoria on Friday.

According to police, a BMW was travelling southbound on Douglas Street when it hit the pedestrian in the middle of the road.

It happened just before 11 p.m. outside the Red Lion Hotel.

The man was rushed to Victoria General Hospital with life-threatening head injuries.

An investigation is ongoing, but police say alcohol and speed have been ruled out as contributing factors.

The man was inside the Red Lion Hotel prior to the crash, police say.

Officers will conduct follow-ups with staff to develop a timeline of the events leading up to the collision.
