A man was taken to hospital on Friday morning after he we was hit by a vehicle while crossing the road in Saanich.

Police say the young male was on the crosswalk at Interurban Road and Columbine Way just after 7:15 a.m.

“[The] northbound vehicle on Interurban Road failed to yield for the pedestrian and swerved to try and avoid him, but however hit the pedestrian and then hit a vehicle coming in the opposite direction,” said Sgt. Allan Grudzinski.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

One of the driver’s was badly shaken up and taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, according to police.

Officials are trying to determine if the crosswalk lights were flashing at the time and say they’ve heard both sides from witnesses.

“It’s a very good warning and wake-up call for all pedestrians and cyclists and drivers to be aware of each other,” said Grudzinski.

Police say they are “contemplating charges depending on what the investigation concludes.”
